DATE: April 21, 2017... OCCASION: in between museums (the newly opened American Revolution and the Penn) and looking for a diversion--a pint at 2nd Story will do!... GLASSWARE: nonick... dark, opaque amber body--high on the SRM--with an off-white ring of foamy head... smells of a malty base, with vanilla, chestnut, coffee bean, and light peat--quite a panoply of suggestions... first sip is not so inviting: flat, medium-bodied, fuller at the finish with little effervescence... a dry finish suggests a varied consistency... light chocolate, some peat light/no hops discernible, mint tea, oak--like a watered down wee heavy... all flavors seem muted, almost stating the obvious: a 3% ABV beer cannot deliver the profile of something larger, plain and simple... I love the idea of this, and the synergy between the new museum and the brewery creates milieu, but...the museum's quality and payoff is not matched by this tie-in offering... the Drinkers should have checked Jefferson, Franklin and Washington's recipes for starters....
