Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark orange-brown with a fine one finger light khaki head with great retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, malt balls, dates and figs. Flavor of biscuit and lightly toasted malt, cocoa, raisins, dates. Finishes with rich biscuit malt, a faint hint of char, light hops and dark fruit. Medium bodied with light creaminess; nice mouth feel. A great example of one of my favorite styles that seem out of favor right now. Although labelled as a stock ale, this leans much closer to old ales like Hibernation than the stock ale made by North Coast; both excellent in their own ways. This has a nice, rich malty biscuit body and good dried fruit flavors to start then lighter but brighter dark fruit flavors in the finish along with a little hop kick. I liked this a lot.
