Another beer brought by elrogish on one of our Oregon camping trips.
Rough turbid amber pour, I've brown spackled some porcelain with this color and consistency combo. Funky 1/3" white head formation, had a weird float to it like there was another layer dividing the head and the liquid beneath it. Aroma not of hops, but of sweet guava. C'mon three magnets, you used to be cool.
Taste is sweet, I guess guava. Disappointing to not really pull any hops out of this. Instead, it seems more like an acidic kettle sour smoothie. I dunno what more to say, this is everything I don't want out of a pale ale. Its like your fruited wheat ale came in and evicted the hops. There isn't a dry body, its just sweetness all over it. This is easily my least favorite beer I've had from Three Magnets, all the others have been bangers. Glad I got to split it without making a purchase, but even looking at the design, I think just reading about the beer on the can label would preclude me from trying it. Pass. Rare miss.

Frothy pour in the tall glass, amber brew with white foam. Sudsy mouthfeel with a tart edge. Aroma of fruit is quite lush. Flavor is more like pink guava than pretty much any I can remember. Bitter finish. Hops are listed as Meridian, Loral, and Palisade. This is supposed to be a Pale Ale, remember, even though it's quite fruity.
I suppose you could argue for guava in a Saison or wheat beer rather than a hoppy one. It's also quite acidic. I'm not so crazy about the bitter/fruity mix after a few sips, but it would be a good thirst quencher. From the 16 oz can purchased at Special Brews in Lynnwood.

On draft at brewery
Hazy pale yellow with pinkish hue, not much head. As expected, big guava tropical aroma. Good fruity flavor with mild hop bite, not sweet. Thinner bodied.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very hazy caramel amber with a fine one finger white head that is somewhat spritzy at first, but has good retention and lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus hops, lemon citrus, guava and a little pineapple. Flavor is neutral malt, citrus hops, lemon and grapefruit, guava, light orange, flavor drops off quickly into a hoppy finish that reveals light estery tropical and citrus notes. Medium bodied with sharp carbonation. A nice infusion of fruit into a good hoppy light pale ale. The guava flavor is distinct, but light and fits with the hops and mildly flavored malt. Very refreshing and stayed interesting throughout the can, which is not common for me with fruit forward hopped ales.
