Poured into a MacAndrew's thistle glass. Pours a medium to dark reddish orange with a half finger off-white head that dissipates to large patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark and biscuit malt, rye and brown bread, a little toffee. Flavor is toasted and dry biscuit malt, brown bread, nuts and peaty smoke. Finishes with a little smoky astringency with lingering dark malt. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A pleasant domestic take on a Scottish ale, a style that seems fairly rare from North American brewers. The malt is dark and lightly toasty and the peat smoke is well balanced and mostly noticeable in the finish. An interesting choice for a beer made for a pub's anniversary, but a nice one, indeed.
