Appearance - The beer poured a murky black/brownish color with an off-white colored head.

Smell - The Belgian yeast shined giving me a noted banana nose.

Taste - The combination of cocoa with Belgian yeast gave me the impression of banana rolled in Baker’s chocolate. It created an interesting and enjoyable profile. The sweetness of the banana lingered but was not overly sweet. The cocoa faded rather quickly.

Mouthfeel - There was some definite cling in the mouth feel with little carbonation.

Overall - Others don’t seem to have like this much, but I found it interesting.

A bit of a malty nose with none of the chocolate/coffee notes you might expect. Relatively thick and smooth. Strong cocoa taste.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin, fizzy, dark khaki that disappears with a ring of bubbles around the edge. Aroma of mild candi malt and cocoa, nice but subdued. Flavor is candi malt, Belgian yeast, cocoa, light coffee with light fruit developing; cherry and light stone fruit. Finishes with Belgian fruit yeast flavors and lingering cocoa with a hint of cola. Light to medium bodied with sharp carbonation. There is a distinct Belgian yeast character here that almost reminds me of a very fruity one like Selkirk uses. The malt depth is shallow; this is fairly light in body for a quad. The cocoa is bright and authentic. There is an unusual soda-like character here; light body, fruit and cola notes a strong carbonation. It is a light bodied quad, but its Belgian origin is clear and the nice cocoa flavors carry it through. Unique and interesting, but not what is expected.
