man oh man, another unique malt based beer in a conventional style that stands out as an original beer from these guys, i simply love them and all they brew for the most part, so glad to finally be seeing these cans in boise, hopefully a sign of more to come! this is a steam beer as a base, slightly hazy copper colored liquid with a high off white head, lathery and thick but not real permanent. it smells a bit sweet, baked and caramelized, with golden raisin and dried apple nuance, some spiciness in the malt too, almost rye-esque there, some light yeastiness too, not quite saison, but not neutral either. the flavor is great, hints of white wine and a little tannic thing to the ferment, plenty of sweetness from the malt, lots of nuance to it too, super earthy to me and just a little bit rich, way more complex than most of these. unique if this is lager yeast too, overly fruity somehow, maybe super warm fermentation, but the cohesiveness is there and this is great beer, unlike any other take on this style i have ever had. these guys continue to impress, and while this isnt for everyone i dont think, it certainly is for me. cool use of neat ingredients, which is always the case with their stuff, definitely worth picking up if you like this sort of thing even a little bit!

Pours a dense hazy amber with lots of flaky floaties swirling like a dystopian snow globe under a largely headless sky.
The nose has sweet caramel, whole wheat bread, honey and apples all swirling together. In beer terms it smells like day old anchor steam.
The taste has a lot of those sweet grainy notes with strong honey notes
Mouthfeel is thick to the point of near chewiness. Very heavy in combination with the sweetness, not super appealing for a return.
Overall I like the concept and the novel malt adjuncts but the beer just doesn't work for me. Its got the graininess of anchor steam but non of the bitterness or a crisp enough body to make it work all together.
Ultimaty a rare miss for me from the folks at 3 magnets

Poured into a Chuckanut pint glass. Pours a hazy, medium orange amber with a thin white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of biscuit and grainy malt, citrus hops, lemon, overripe tropical fruit. Flavor is grainy malt with light biscuit and a bit of husk, overripe tropical fruit, vague citrus and a hint of grapefruit. Finishes with mild hops and husky graininess. Medium bodied with light creaminess. An interesting take on a steam beer; the deep graininess is somewhat reminiscent of a kolsch, but with some biere de garde depth. Rustic, but not a saison style. I liked this one.
