Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark, murky orange brown with a thin off-white heat that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, whiskey and toffee; inviting. Flavor is dry caramel and biscuit malt, whisky, oak, dates and toffee. Whisky finish with residual, lingering dry caramel. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The traditional Old Skook malt base, which is largely English on the dry caramel and biscuit end of the spectrum with more dry fruit then plum character. The whisky is dominant flavor here, especially in the finish. Nice malty barleywine, maybe a bit unbalanced by the whisky, but still pleasant. Not as novel as the gin barrel variant I tried earlier, but worthy.
