Its body is a perfectly clear amber gold. A creamy white finger of head holds steady. A thick concentric stripe of lace sticks onto the sides of the glass as its head dissipates.
Oodles of sweet ripened peaches burst out of the glass. They've got a candied quality to them but nothing artificial. Equally sweet and ripe mangoes are close by. This smells like a fruit smoothie. A fresh, green dankness is pervasive throughout. It's clean, it's bright, and it's ultra fresh.
The fresh, green, leafy quality carries more weight in the taste. Its center is chalk full of chewy mango, papaya, and peach. The 95 IBU's shows near the finish where a prickly, dank and rounded bitterness pulls through and leads to a dry finish. As it warms, a soft caramel sweetness becomes more apparent but it avoids being in the spotlight.
Medium bodied and a tad syrupy, which is to be expected considering it's ABV. The finish is dry and the feel is clean. The punch of alcohol it packs is only noticeable in the buzz you get by the end of the bottle; it's masterfully hidden.
Smooth, balanced, rounded, clean, and concise are all adjectives I typically associate with a fresh Pilsner or Pale Ale. It takes a lot of skill to make a 9.6% 95 IBU Imperial IPA match this same description and Stone City absolutely nailed it with this one. May all praise be to Stone City Ales.
