March 30 2025, from a can poured into a tulip glass
Look: Beautiful deep golden color, minimal white head that dissipates into a small ring and some foam on top.
Smell: Citrus, grapefruit, maybe some orange, a touch of pine, a hint of caramel. Not as strong as I expected from a triple IPA.
Taste: Follows the nose. This is dangerously drinkable for 10%. It's smooth, citrus, grapefruit, a touch of pine, some sweetness comes out in the middle, good bitterness at the end. Not as strong as I'd expect from a triple IPA. This is more like most doubles, and even some regular IPAs - imagine a stronger version of Jai Lai.
Feel: Not as sticky or full-bodied as I expected, but medium to full body, slight stickiness, small carbonation. It's got a very smooth and nice mouthfeel.
Overall: For a local brewery in West Virginia, it's a very nice IPA. It's not overpowering, although there's a good bit of lingering bitterness at the end. There's a small malt backbone, although this isn't on the sweet side. The alcohol is dangerously well-hidden. I would definitely order this when available, although it's probably not worth the $30 price for a 4-pack. Think maybe Great Lakes Vibacious, Torpedo IPA - it's along those lines. Big Timber make some good beers.
