Matte black with some brown speckling, grayish tan cap. The rye whiskey, wood, and roasted malt aromas come through really well, especially as it warms, with light pumpkin pie, dark fruit, and light spices. Taste has more depth to the pumpkin and rye, clear leading ladies of the brew, getting some vanilla, cocoa, smoke, and a hint of licorice. Feel for a pumpkin beer is great because the pumpkin smoothness with the malt is there in the center of it all, but it is surrounded by emerging textures of rye, wood, booze, and smokiness. Chewy.

500 ml bottle into a snifter. Had 10/31/17.
Pours dark, a little garnet in the light, mostly opaque, with a half inch quickly dissipating head and some spotty lacing. Aromas of really great rye whiskey, malt, chocolate, pumpkin, molasses, raisins, prunes, caramel, oak, light vanilla and spices. Wow. The taste is malt, rye whiskey, spices, oak, chocolate, raisins, some caramel and pumpkin, light vanilla. A good amount of alcohol burn on the finish, for 8.8%. Smooth, a solid medium body, well carbonated.
Koval barrels are always good and they are the star here. Terrific aroma, flavors well blended, well balanced overall. Hope they make this next year.
