500 ml bottle into a tulip glass. 2018 edition, had 4/28/19.
Pours a deep purplish red, cloudy, with a one and a half inch quickly dissipating head and specks of lacing. Active carbonation and maybe the loudest fizz I’ve ever heard in a beer. Aromas of grapes, malt, some wine, some cherries, Belgian yeast, light black pepper, light berries, a spicy aroma. The flavor seems more focused- grapes, some wine, malt, spices, light berries, faint cherries. Smooth, fairly dry, a decent medium body, well carbonated on the high side.
Great aroma, but the flavor profile is more limited than most others in the Barrel series that I’ve had. Also did not encounter the strong cherry taste the brewery described. But, this one grows on you as it warms. Very enjoyable and worth a purchase.
