500 ml bottle into a snifter. Label states 2017 edition, had 12/4/18.
Pours a dark amber, somewhat cloudy, with a one inch foamy head with good retention and a fair amount of foamy lacing. The smell is not good at first pour, badly soured. It mostly clears up in the glass over time, but two subsequent pours needed that same time to air out. Ok, aromas of chocolate, malt, figs, dates, whiskey as it warms, some rye, light cherries. The taste was not as bad as the smell, and pretty well cleared up in the glass. Flavors of rye whiskey, dates, some chocolate and figs, some caramel, light cherries and plums, malt, some rye, light alcohol. Mostly smooth, a good medium to full body, well carbonated.
Obviously this is not as intended. Definitely problems with the aroma, the flavor was good, but the cocoa nibs don’t show well. Have had the base BA on tap a few times and it’s solid. Too bad this didn’t hold up.
