Served as a treat from the brewer at the Trap Rock.
Pours a golden amber into a brandy snifter and further enhanced by the cozy lodge like ambiance of the Trap Rock warmth.
Scents are a bold debateable triple IPA meets barley wine rather than old ale that meets up with the flavor palate of a robust American hop Barley Wine with orange and apricot schnapps sizzle. A twinge fusel but belly warming more that anything.
Somewhat thinner than a thick barleywine or Olde Ale. Not depreciating the flavor aspects, just that it isn't a chewy bite.
Last swigs: Thanks a million to the Trap Rock for this tasty offering. The wrangle over the particular style titular appelation was lost the moment that the beer engulfed my senses.

I had the immense pleasure of having this served to me at Trap Rock Restaurant and Brewery in Berkeley Heights, NJ. The owner, Charlie, brought it out of his cellar for blitheringidiot, myself, and another guest. This beer was specially made for Michael Jackson's 60th birthday party.
Well, this is one nice birthday present. On his website, Michael Jackson refers to this as "a darker, even hoppier, counterpart to Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale." I'm not sure if that is true. But it is a very hoppy old ale. Not quite a barley wine. The malt is less, which is typical of old ales as compared to barley wines. Those two styles can bleed into each other however, This beer is hopped like an American barley wine, so it will remind you of that. Since this beer has less residual sugars of a barley wine, I find it much more drinkable.
