Originating from Dusseldorf Germany, the name of this beer means "old beer". Deep amber in color. Rich malt aroma with hints of chocolate, toffee, and noble hops. Moderate hop bitterness balances the sturdy malt structure. Slightly nutty in finish. Excellent choice for complex flavor profile without packing high alcohol.
Malts: Pilsner, Munich Dark, Vienna, Caramel 60
Hops: Bravo, Hallertaur Mittelfruh
Yeast: Dusseldorf

not a real impressive beer for me, on tap at the terminal bar in union station. they just had it called amber, but i assume it is the same beer. someone correct me if it isnt please. this has a nice deep color to it, several shades past where we normally get with the style, brick red and attractive and hearty looking, but almost dead still in the pint glass, no head at all. aroma is good, a richer malt base than a lot of these have, very european in aroma, bready and toasted, autumnal to me, vienna malt for sure, and some lightly floral hops. the flavor is fine too, not quite as nuance as it smells and the yeast is kind of weird to me, but there is a fine chestnut note in the malt, a light sweetness to it, and a bit of bitterness to finish, more robust than i am used to in imported examples of the style, but a good mix of flavors here. its the feel that kills me, totally lacking in carbonation, this is basically flat, and with the body and light residual sweetness, it drinks kind of heavy and slow to me, it would be a much better beer with more active carbonation. it also doesnt warm up great, getting overly malty and a bit more one dimensional. i like these guys, but they could make this beer better than it is. maybe something is up with all the drafts at terminal bar, as they carbonation wasnt great with most of them, ill give these guys a pass on that this time. an otherwise fine glass of beer...
