Part of a flight at the brewery with Bro, Sis and Bessie. Flight plus growler and fill with a Groupon. Decent lager but nothing special in this offering.

Hazy, but a pleasant Helles lager for the Florida heat. There's a bit of spicy hops behind the doughy malts. Tasty, but not crisp. You could mistake this for a blond ale.

Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains and some bread on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a very typical lager-like flavor.

Two Henrys Brewing Co. "Gilded Age" Golden Lager
12 oz. can, no freshness dating
$2.49 @ Total Wine & More #901, Tampa, FL
Two Henrys' Gilded Age pours a slightly hazy yellow body beneath full head of bright white foam that steadily recedes to a whispy-but-solid surface covering. Standard sized bubbles can be seen steadily streaming towards the surface; and with each sip a short wall of lacing is left behind to slowly erode into broken patches, streaks, and spots.
The aroma is clean and bright with floral and grassy hops, a soft apple-like fruitiness, and a touch of yeast over sweetish, grainy malt. The flavor follows suit with the distinctly grainy and somewhat honey-like malt dominating. Grassy, floral, and subtly spicy and lemony hops back it. The yeast found in the aroma is not as pronounced in the flavor, and gives more of a "fresh beer" characteristic than anything else. A firm bitterness anchors it and helps to dry it in the finish along with the spicy hops.
Additional notes: This is a little bit of an odd bird. I feel a bit more aging, or even just tighter filtration, would lend it a bit of polish and tame some of the "green" character it displays - but that would leave it just like any other golden lager, or at least put it in the same ball park, and what fun is that? As it is, I appreciate its grainy maltiness and yeast flavor as they're both within a certain limitation; and I do think, as the label states "this is the beer most like what the Henrys would've enjoyed at the turn of the century...". Easily drinkable and enjoyable, I'd recommend at least giving it a try.
