Arrives a glass full of black with an espresso colored head. Retention is not a strong point but who expected it to be? Just a thin ring remains.
Smeschocolate, coffee, vanilla, toasted malt. Balance is decent.
Taste is coffee forward, with vanilla playing second fiddle and burnt toast and light caramel way in the back.
For a barrel aged brew, the lack of any wood it whiskey/rum notes is disturbing and depressing. Nothing here makes you think this is barrel aged at all . It really needs some time in a barrel to balance out these flavors.
