Decent beers, many of their own and a few no there's. Nice place, but a little rough compared to the rest of the places in Strasbourg

Great little place of the main drag, nextdoor to a freaky toy shop. About 6 beers on tap of decent quality and an enjoyable atmosphere in which to consume them.
The barman was very helpful and sympathetic to my limited french vocabulary, and the music was cool too!
To me, the highlight of the beer selection was the rauchbier, but the rest on offer were quite tasty as well.
Limited food was available, but I didn't have any, so I can't comment.
The only bad point I thought was it didn't open until 4pm!

The Brasserie de la Lanterne is a nice brewpub downtown Strasbourg, a minute away from the Cathedral. The place is always crowded, especially on Wednesdays when pints only cost 3 euros. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with nice copper tanks, although it is always kind of loud there. There is a smaller room in the back that is sometimes quieter.
The establishment has 5 or 6 beers depending on the season. The amber is my best pick there, but they also have a plum beer that I like. The Christmas beer has a strong taste of anise that I found interesting too. My main regret is that all their beers seem to lack carbonization. You can also taste beer cocktails with Alsatian liquors. And if you get hungry, they serve “tartes flambées” in the evening. It is definitely a nice place to hang out, even if the beer isn’t that exceptional.

French twist on the brewpub. Actually very similar to many small brewpubs you see everywhere. Establishment is centered by small but beautiful copper brew tanks in the middle behind the bar and many small nooks and crannies everywhere. Strasbourg is a large university and medical town. This along with the new European parliament building makes this a very social town. La Laterne is located not too far from the main Cathedral square and squarely in the middle of the University area. Very smoky place (just like everywhere in Europe). They had approximately 5-6 beers along wiht some standard guest beers (read Euro-macro). Not a bad place but beers were pretty generic. There is a great beer shop up the street which I need toget info on. You could do much worse than this place in Strasbourg.
