Bloom Brew

Visited after trail riding on a short 16 miler on The Great Allegheny Passage. It was a warm sunny afternoon, so having outside seating was nice. The COVID again prevented fun. Anyway, server was good after ordering food(from sushi food truck

Bloom Brew rests in back of the volunteer fire station and right on the river. Great outdoor seating options. In fact - only outdoor. Excellent beer. Great outdoor experience. Really friendly staff and approachable Brewer!

 

Bloom Brew is in the back of the West Newton fire station, I think? It's fairly bare bones and reminds me a lot of East End back in the day. They carry up to 24 beers for growler fills, though only 19 were on when I visited. As cool as it is to have such a wide variety, I think it also detracts and is problematic for several reasons. The first is that you are really missing out on a lot of stuff because you can only try so many beers at once. The second is that instead of doing a few things well, they seem to run the risk of doing a lot of things in mediocrity. The latter seems to be the case as 2 of 3 beers I had were not really inspiring or on the level. The 3rd beer though was really quite good. Either way, Bloom Brew will probably need to step up their game. They may do a decent business for the Westmoreland county area, but I don't think they will get much traction putting out some of the stuff they apparently are.
