Had on tap in a pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: clear golden hue with a touch of haze. Head is a thin layer of creamy ivory foam.
Smell: very light citrusy aroma. Quite mild but pleasant -- really, this is too good for a malt liquor. As a beer it is OK, as a malt liquor it is great. Split the difference.
Taste: mild malt flavor with a light bitterness and citrus notes. Surprisingly good, if a little sweet and sticky.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a big creamy carbonation. Another surprise, and I like it!
Overall: great for the style; maybe even too good. As general beers go, it is a light flavored somewhat hoppy session brew. Like I said, it's almost *too* good to really be called a malt liquor.

Named for the denizens of the busy street that the brewery is located on, Ave Rat is several steps better than the beer in 40's that are consumed on University Avenue.
The beer poured a light, clean, clear yellow with a half inch of white head that dissipated quickly and left light lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty with some grain noticeable. The taste is the same, grainy sweet, with a slight hint of alcohol at the back end.
The body is on the thin side, but typical for the style. Drinkability is good, several of these go down easily on a warm day, even if you're not on "The Ave".
