On tap at Big Time in Seattle Washington.

A: 1/2" mocha coloured head that left a nice lacing over very brown/black liquid.

S: Raisins, malt, and black licorice.

T: Malt, coffee and black licorice. Quite different from other doppelbocks I have had, but in a good way.

M: Thick viscosity with a medium level of fine carbonation.

O: Interesting doppelbock with flavors reminiscent of black licorice and coffee.

Had a pour of this in a tulip today at the brewery. Bartender says this brew is 8% ABV.

Appearance: so dark it is nearly black, with a full finger of creamy tan foam. Pretty good.

Smell: mild fruity and bubblegummy aroma. Interesting if somewhat unrefined.

Taste: sweet malt with a pretty obvious alcohol and some of that bubblegum from the aroma, along with some light fruit notes. I like it, although it is a bit sweet and candy-like.

Mouthfeel: medium heavy body with big carbonation and concomitant creaminess. Absolutely love the rich, creamy mouthfeel here.

Overall: while this is definitely not a beer I'd drink all the time, it is still a pretty good treat. A once-in-awhile quaffer, it's sweet but good.
