Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a fairly dark copper color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head quickly dissipating to leave some messy lace. The aroma had some semi-sweet honey covered biscuits, grassy hop character, light smoke, some caramel/toffee malt development at the end. The flavor leaned into the sweetness of the prior mentioned aromas. Quaint semi-sweet to smokey aftertaste rolling into the finish in the same sort of way. The feel was medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Moderate carbonation was felt. ABV felt good. Overall, pretty nice strong ale that I thought was more towards the English wheelhouse. But hey, it tasted good and that’s all that matters.

Slightly murky dark red/brown. Tiny head quickly dissipates.
Smell of candied dark fruit - figs, dates, grape jelly, chocolate covered cherries. Also molasses and slight alcohol.
Taste follows the nose almost note for note. Just an iota of hop bitterness for balance on the finish.
Chewy, sticky feel. Low carbonation.
Another pleasant surprise from this brewery.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on January 30, 2016.
It pours brown with a lingering off-white head. Kind of opaque.
The aroma is cooked malts, caramel, brown sugar and little to no hop profile. No booze.
Medium body.
The taste tends to have a smoked or brunt malt quality to it and it really sits on the back on my tongue. Decent malt character. Low to no bitter finish.

Bottle from Berthold's Better Beers.
Mostly clear dark garnet color with a huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Rich toffee and caramel maltiness with bits of chocolate, vanilla, fudge, frosting, and light earthy pine to round it all out. This smells fantastic! the flavor follows the aroma pretty well but adds a bit of coffee, butterscotch and light smoke. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy bubbly mouthfeel. Pretty good beer right here
