Open Bottle - Tinley Park

Heavy glows orange from top to bottom and back. The clarity is surprisingly good. A dense, pillow-y head of dirty white foam sits at an easy two fingers after the pour. As it settles at a finger in height it leaves behind sticky, patchy lacing. A few bubbles creep up the sides of the glass in streams. Slowly but surely. She's purty.

The nose reeks of citric goodies. Grapefruit and orange dominate and run the gamut from juice to pit to dried peel to oil. It's juicy upfront with a clean booziness drying out the nose before the pith and oil take charge. I would have to say that orange is more prevalent than grapefruit but they are both in charge. The malt profile is caramel driven for sure but brings along crusty white bread. I like where this is headed.

It's not as densely citric as the nose, wait, it's not as complexly citric as the nose. Again, it's orange and grapefruit here, there, everywhere. That sweet juiciness starts it off before bright pith and dense orange oil run the middle to finish. Orange qualities step on the grapefruit but they're both at play. The caramel maltiness lays down just enough sweetness to keep the hop profile from running rampant but it's not far off. The booziness, it's clean, helps clean up any thought of overly sweet.

An IIPA weighing in at 10%. I got this on a recommendation and expected a something a little sticky, a little sweet. This beer is surprisingly clean for such a monster. The body weighs in a couple hairs over moderate and the alcohol bite clears up any thoughts of stickiness. I'm good with a quick hit of booziness in a beer of this sort. For the stoutness, this beer drinks like a champ.

Heavy is big on those old school citric notes. I'm good with the big orange and grapefruit. It's boldly hoppy with just enough caramel to keep things in check. Surprisingly drinkable for a beer of this size. I don't make a habit of buying $10 IIPA bombers but this is certainly worth a whirl. Give it a go, yous!
