Chocolaty forefront with a lingering sweet coffee finish, balanced with subtle hopping.

This beer will be memorable for me because of the way it opened. As soon as I lightly pried on the cap, BOOM! - the cap went flying across the room and a gusher began; it was like opening a bottle of champagne. This has never happened to me before with unshaken beer. Pouring took several pours as the carbonation was ridiculously active and filled the glass after pouring about 1/4 of the bottle. Anyway... eventually the head dies down to a 2mm fluffy mocha tan head which flirted with lacing but really just clung to itself while drinking. Aroma was of dark burnt malt as any oatmeal stout would be but there is something else, almost a metallic quality. Taste is of sweet chocolate/ coffee/ burnt malts with a touch of a woody/white pepper/medicinal taste (chicory?) and a slight bitter bite to finish each sip. Enjoyable enough; not one to seek out necessarily.

A very interesting oatmeal stout. It has an amazing aroma. With chocolate and coffee overtones. What I can't get past is the peppery chicory flavour.
