Grodziskie. Unknown ABV. 33cl brown glass bottle for 2.50 euro @ Catraio in Porto, Portugal.
HEAD: ~5cm wide. White colour. Airy and thin, but appealing. Retention is good - ~10 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.
BODY: Clear pale copper of below average vibrance.
No yeast or lees are visible within (which is to style).
It's a nice looking grodziskie, but there's nothing unique or special about it.
AROMA: Fresh wheat. Lemon. Lemongrass. Zest. The smokiness is really reticent - maybe 1/10 in terms of intensity.
Suggests a refreshing light brew with pleasant easy drinking flavour. Aromatic intensity is average.
I'm eager to try it.
TASTE & TEXTURE: A biteen smacky and slightly acidic. Lemon brings a bit more acidity to the mouthfeel. It's aptly light-bodied, making it refreshing, but its troublesome dryness makes it drag a bit on the palate. Smooth and well-carbonated.
The fresh wheat backbone is soft and comforting. Not really sour, but there's some clean lemony twang.
Nice easy harmony of texture and taste.
OVERALL: A bit more smokiness would be ideal. As-is, it's drinkable and enjoyable, and easily one of the better brews I've tried in Portugal. I could easily down another 3 bottles of this. It's great to see grodziskie being brewed in Portugal. One I intend to return to.
