12oz can, no apparent freshness date; with this labeled "Märzen Ale" by the brewer, a complete oxymoron in my opinion, I feel lost on how to review this even before I open the can
A - thinner ivory head fades to a foam atop a copper colored body
S - smells nothing like a Märzen, but it is fruity and caramely
T - fruity with bready malt and caramel, a bit spicy, orange and grapefruit zest with some spicy and earthy hops and a bit if pine; actually pretty good flavors if just drinking a "beer" - but again is absolutely nothing like a Märzen
M - medium body, moderate carbonation, finishes semi-bitter with pine and earthy hops lingering on the palate
O - overall experience: good American Pale Ale brewed with German malts. Unfortunately this never should have been called a Märzen. It's an abomination to a great style of beer. Call this what it should be (an APA in my opinion) and I would have probably given it a 3.5-3.75/5 overall. I love the Märzen style and this is not a Märzen of any kind. I hate to box this into a style, but unfortunately it's just so far outside the margins of what it is labeled.

Served from tap in a flared pokal at the tap room.
Continuing my introduction to CLB with their regular marzen. It pours a clear copper topped by a finger of cream foam. The nose comprises mild maple syrup, light cereal grains, and a hint of grass. The taste starts off as a rich caramel-maple flavor, which then reduces to a thick glaze on dark greens and grass. The balance is quite strong here. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a very nice marzen, well-balanced and something I could easily drink plenty of.
