Caramel malt and piney bitter hops, just like a "Märzen". This has an unfortunate misleading name, which should be apparent from the confusing "American Märzen Ale" on the can.
Dark amber color, minimal head, bare spotty lace. Sweet caramel malt aroma, stale bread and pine.
Taste is sweet with a moderately bitter piney finish. Carbonation ebbs away fairly quickly.
Overall this is a pretty ho-hum dime a dozen amber ale, they threw name on the can that sounded good.

12 fl oz. can, no canned on date or freshness information present. My first beer from Crystal Lake Brewing; cquired a single can of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack from the local Binny's. "American Marzen Ale".
Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.
A - I averted a foamy disaster as the can began to overflow, but i prevail - it pours a coppery golden orange body, lots of fine sediment, with about two fingers of thick foamy frothy off-white head that leaves good fluffy scattered lacing. Head retains itself nicely for a while. Appears adequately carbonated. Looks very nice.
S - Aroma is of sweetened caramel / toffee malts, some herbal / earthy / leafy character. Malty & bready with notes of brown bread, but not particularly toasty or nutty.
T - Taste follows the nose: crisp, bready, malty - notes of caramel / toffee, some dirty herbal leafy hop presence, with notes of yeast on the end. Again, bready, malty, dry, & yeasty, though not particularly nutty or toasty. Dry & herbal, with some leafy tea-like sweetness.
M - Feel is smooth, crisp, & clean. Dry finish. Fairly light in body, easy drinking, with good crisp carb.
Overall, a decent first beer to me from Crystal Lake Brewing, definitely has me interested to try more from these guys.
