Stopped off at the brewery to kick off my 4 day weekend and had this beer on tap. This beer is an alternate version of Platform's Hubris 2 x IPA. This version is brewed with locally grown habanero peppers. Being the big chile head/hot sauce aficionado that I am, I knew I had to give this beer a try. Served to be in a tulip glass with a white head about an inch thick when first serves to me. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass after a few minutes. Not much lacing at all. Has some nice piney, resinous, dank, citrus hop notes that certainly gives way to habanero peppers. Has a slight toasted caramel malt sweetness upfront flavor wise that gives way to piney, resinous, somewhat citrusy, earthy hop presence. Then comes the glorious heat spice from the habaneros , which pack quite a punch upfront after taking a sip, but dissipate yet linger on the palate while making way for the aftertaste from the other flavors to be appreciated as well. Just the right amount of heat if you are a chili head. Has a crisp, prickly, slightly chewy, yet also smooth and somewhat creamy, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation.
