This beer is one of the 8 special collaboration beers brewed for the 2015 Cleveland Beer Week. This particular beer is a collaboration between Platform Brewing Company, a brewery from Cincinnati, OH called Madtree, and a pretty new Cleveland upstart brewery called Brick & Barrel. Poured out of a growler into my snifter, this beer pours a very dark brown, almost black color that is not interested in letting in any light at all whatsoever. Has a slightly tan, off white, fluffy looking head with big bubbles that is about 1/4 of an inch thick when poured with good retention. Not much lacing here. Roasted, caramel malt aromas along with strong hints of coffee and some chocolate notes are all nicely present. Tastewise this beer has s a nice, roasted caramel sweet malts upfront that nicely gives way to chocolate notes and some coffee bitterness that is rounded out with a nice touch of hops. There is also a milk like/lactic quality. Very tasty indeed! This is one that really needs to sit and warm up for awhile in order for all the complex flavors to come out fully. Has a slightly crisp, mainly smooth and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a very clean finish. An excellent beer indeed!
