Received as an extra in a trade. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a slightly hazy deep dark reddish amber hue with a thin half finger off white head that fades slowly to leave thin wisps and a light halo.

S - Aromas of earthy, spicy hops. Faint caramel, little bit of pine, some bready malts as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Decent pine notes, fair amount of caramel malts, spicy earthy hops. Huge bitterness on the finish, surprisingly so. Some malty breadiness, little bit of cardboard.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, crisp, bitter.

O - Overall this was a rather mediocre hoppy offering from Ohio. In the sea of hops, this one falls in the middle of the pack.

Poured into a Delirium snifter on 4/24/16.

The color is alarming; pours a deep crimson brown but looks more like a light hued porter or black IPA than a red IPA. Foam is slow to gather, maybe a quarter inch total, and drops off to a washy layer and similar lace.

The aroma is heavily malty with a strong caramel note and some biscuit, graham cracker, and a hint of dough. Sugary dark fruits and gum drops. Hops are not as potent but offer up a decent floral and pine overlay with a few hints of citrus zest. Regrettably there are vegetal hints and suggestion of tomato paste... great. The beer is slow to work its way toward a completed swig. It's rough and granular with carbonation that sufficiently bolsters the the bitterness of this beer. And is it a bitter one. The bitter aspects of this beer are all encompassing and completely trounce the malt and floral/pine hop flavors. This is solidly bad.

Platform is new to the Columbus market; upon reading in the forums that they have some crap beer, I figured I'd give them a shot. I genuinely enjoy trying crap beer. Red Cup did not disappoint in that regard.

12 oz can poured into a mason jar.

Cloudy Amber color with a 1 inch head that leaves decent lacing. Hoppy and malty on the noise. Hints of spiced tea. Taste is sharp bitter spiced grapefruit rind and semi-sweet malt. There is a battle going on here with each taking it's turn on the tastebuds. Ultimately the bitter hops build and end up winning. Smooth and easy to drink. A nice representation of the style. Would have again.

Pours a ruby Amber color. Aroma is citrus with a little spicyness from the rye and a malty backbone. Flavor follows the nose with a little bit of pine in the hop profile. Has a nice body and drinks well. Overall a very solid beer.

12oz can poured into a tulip. Nose is bitter hop, blood orange, and grapefruit. Pours a rusty copper, with a thick 2 finger khaki head. The palate is piney hop and thick malt. The malt sweetness is thoroughly masked though by an intense astringent bitterness . This prevents the rich malt from oversweetening the beer, but also adds a particularly coarse note to the palate. Other notes follow the nose, with grapefruit, blood orange, and naval orange coming through strongly, accented with a hint of sea salt on the backend. The body is thoroughly medium, which suits the style well.

Overall, this is a more successful take on the style than many I've tried. The rough dryness of the bitter hops prevents this beer from taking on an overly malty tone, but cuts back on the ability of the underlying nuances of the palate to fully come through. A solid beer, a strong addition to the style, but not one without its flaws.

A- Pours a very dark coppery crimson, off-white head
S- Bitter pine hops, slight hint of citrus, pretty big malt presence which makes the nose sweet and a little smokey
T- Well balanced between piney resinous hops and sweet carmel malts, although the malt seems to take over
M- Medium body with moderately high carbonation, finishes dry and crisp, nice for a lower abv IPA
O- Well balanced and very tasty, although I would have liked a stronger hop presence. It's definitely, as the can says: Bitter. Dank. Crimson, but the dankness needs amped up.

12oz can poured into a snifter. Pours a dark auburn with a subtle haze; small light tan head that quickly fades leaving solid retention and little lacing. The aromas are full of sweet caramel malts and citrus notes. Lots of caramel and grapefruit. The flavors follow the nose. The malts shine, but the hops do their thing. This one has a solid bitterness to it with nice hop flavor. It's bittersweet. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very smooth and easy to drink.

This is a nice hoppy red ale. I like it. It's on par with and reminiscent of alot of the other examples of the style. Enjoyable stuff. Well done.
