This marks the CANtinuation of my (Un?)Happy New Jumping Off of the New Platform Beer Sunday (Week 755)! I have been redding up my house during my CANvalescence from surgery & putting together a number of brewery horizontals in doing so. I had planned, even before its announcement about its sale to A-B/InBev, to drink a buncha beers & a seltzer from Kleveland's Platform Beer Co. for this week's NBS. I was disheartened to hear of the news, especially having read the GI story. I am not one to boycott a beer due to their acquisition by a large corporation, but it did take some of the wind out of my sails.

From the CAN: "West Coast Style IPA"; "Bright*Dry*Hoppy"; "Malts[:] 2 Row[,] Dextrine[,] Crystal 15[,] Acidulated[,] Hops[:] Centennial[,] Cascade[,] Ekuanot (tm)[,] Yeast[:] West Coast Ale[,] Plato[:] 15.5[,] IBU[:] 57"; "Ohio Craft Beer".

"All right!" shouted the hophead as they cranked up the IBUs. I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a moderate C-Line Glug that foamed up to form just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention. Color was a gorgeous solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was redolent with a cool pine mintiness. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was a throwback to the late-1990s when I really became a hophead. It was unapologetically hoppy, bitter & the kind of thing that really trips my trigger & revs my engine. The acidulated malt gave it another layer of slightly tart bitterness. Wow! It was highly pine-like, causing me to CANtemplate licking the sap on a pine tree for a CANparable exbeerience. At last, after a day & a-half, the hops monkey on my back was ceasing his screeching & my hops jones was no longer itching for a scratch. Phew! I miss this kind of thing on a regular basis, thanks to southern hemisphere hops. Finish was dry & bitter, just the way I like 'em. YMMV.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has some hues of amber along with a faint amount of visible carbonation. It poured with lots of medium-sized white bubbles covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with hints of spicy hops.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the hops are a little stronger—with additional notes of citrus and pine—and contribute a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I would consider this to be more of an "honest" IPA. The aromas and flavors of hops won't blow you away but it has a nice amount of bitterness to it.

12 oz can with no freaking date.

Amber orange color, white 1 finger head that does not last and leaves no lacing. Generic fruit, slight spice and malt. Odd mix of hops. Kinda muted flavor profile. Semi-sweet juicy fruit, spicy black pepper with a lemon rind finish. Who knows how old this is. Maybe it`s better fresh. Not a bad beer but something is missing. Pass.

I think this is a great AIPA. This beauty pours deep yellow with fine bubbles. The aroma is hoppy and skunky. Very nice. The taste is bitter yet malty. It looks and tastes more like an imperial, but since it doesn't say that, it's for sessioning, right?

It's just a bit creamy with a bitter aftertaste. This sample is 17 days old. I'l bet they are even more awesome within the first few days (why you drink local, right?).

Recommended. I would certainly buy it again next year.

Overall it was an IPA....and that's about it. The claimed citrusy-melon flavor aren't really prominent in any way. It isn't bad, just something that blends into the background of all the other available IPA's.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours lightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel, peppery, grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hops flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready, grainy, sticky, resinous, and lightly rindy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Really loved the hop profile. Ekuanot, Centennial, and Cascade; with big focus on the Ekuanot, one of my favorite hops. Extremely dank and vibrant hop complexity; solid bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering.

I bought this off the single shelf at the nearby Giant Eagle. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had hints of bitter hop citrus. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with some bitter citrus presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

thanks to my brother, tenderbranson69 for sharing his can with me courtesy of Dr. G.
poured chilled into a willybecker.
The color is a medium amber with white head and fine bead with lace that sticks. the smell is fruity and spicy earthen odor of hops with an almost 'oniony' smell -I hardly ever use that descriptor, but it fits here with a spice-like and faintly floral aroma. The feel is a hop forward with mild malt and moderately bitter texture not extremely bitter with medium carbonation and semi-dry finish.

The taste is good with a nice amount of hop flavor with spicy and oniony(again) maybe even grass-like taste with fruity hop in the blend but a sweet onion-like taste that has herbaceous and some toasted malt flavor in the malt backbone with mostly dry and bitter finish which is spicy with light alcohol in the back. This is a decent IPA, not one to seek out but worth trying -the flavor profile from the hops could use tweaking.

Light gold, white head and tons of soft lace.

Bright, fruity almost Tang-like, but more natural seeming, with a bit of a pungent, ripe, sticky nectarine and slight dankness on the nose.

A little bitter start transitions into that nectarine, with some pine and grapefruit rind, and a hint of strawberry. Is this fruited? Had this on draft at Market District. It's a bit jarring how much overripe fruit I get on this.

Frothy and light with a bitter dry finish.

Bitter, clean, tasty, very drinkable. Best platform offering to date. These guys do a lot of unusual things. They stuck to the basics this time and nailed it. Very enjoyable.

Pours a hazy golden color. Aroma is piney hops with a hint of citrus and sweet malts. Flavor is citrus and pine hops. Has some juicyness and some sharp pine flavor. Has a nice body and overall a solid IPA.

Look: Pours transarent yellow in color. Not much head retention.

Smell: Grassy hops and pine.

Taste: More of the fresh cut grass and pine. It's leveled out with a good malt backbone

Feel: Light to medium bodied. Good carbonation. Drinkable.

Overall: I liked it. When compared to the other IPAs out there today, I would call this average.

12oz can from recent release. $1.69 at local grocery chain.

Straw-golden elixir, clear, as it settles into a SA perfect pint glass. Thick, bright white, 3 finger head with vigorous pour. Thick, patterned lacing.

There is a mild aroma of pineapple, caramel and biscuit but not much in the way of a West Coast style IPA.

Again the flavors are there but subtle, with a noticeable malt presence that quickly overwhelms any hop bitterness.

Smooth, medium to light body, adequate carbonation.

Another average brew from platform. Looking forward to their interpretation of a West Coast IPA but not much going on here.

12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with solid clarity; fluffy eggshell white head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are tropical with some bread notes. Hints of pineapple. Malts are there, but not overpowering. The aromas are subtle, but still smells nice. The flavors are very crisp and clean. Lots of pine and fresh grass. Grapefruit is there with some hints of orange. Sharp bitterness. The malts seem to take a backseat. Finishes dry. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with active carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink.

This is a nice IPA. It's very refreshing. It might not be a flashy example of a "West Coast IPA", but it's well crafted and very enjoyable stuff. I like it.
