An updated take on an old favorite. This time fermented with Norweigean farmhouse yeast and fermented on copious amounts of peaches. Stone fruit aromas abound in this hazy, unfiltered IPA showcasing Citra and Chinook hops.

This is the sixth (& potentially last) of New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 5, Mission II (Week 763), taking me/us back to Week 755 & pre-sale Platform! It also furthers the mission of The CANQuest (tm). Yay!
From the CAN: "Hazy India Pale Ale"; "Grains[:] 2 Row[,] Caramalt 15L[,] White Wheat[,] Malted Oats[,] Hops[:] Citra[,] Chinook[,] Yeast[:] Voss Kviek[,] Adjuncts[:] Peach"; "Plato[:] 16.3[,] IBU[:] 33".
I CANducted some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent, since it was billed as an NEIPA. It also turned out to be a brimful craft CAN (still with the BA logo), giving me a fingertip spritz. I then went with an aggro C-Line Glug that resulted in two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention, refusing to fall even when I was ready! 8=( Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose was redolent with peaches & I was ready to weep with thanks. The day has been (mostly) dedicated to fruited Tarts & Sours, but here was a beer with no bones about simply being fruited.
Hmm, come to think of it, NO adjunct lactose, either. Simply a hazy, unfiltered AIPA. Hmm. Are the "Grains" enough for the style? I realize that I am splitting hairs, but what fun is life without doing so? Hmm.
Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, definitely solid in the mouth & on the tongue, but not quite creamy. I was further impressed that the peachiness of the taste was not all that sweet, either. Instead, it had a light tartness, perhaps as a result of fermentation. Good! I CAN do with less sweetness & even less tartness at this point. This was less peach pie (sweet) than peach preserves (less sweet, kinda tart) while straddling both worlds. I CANnot tell you that I registered the hops, although they may have been a CANtributing factor in its taste. It made for a very interesting drink, lemme tell you! Finish was slightly tart & definitely dry. I was reminded of a dry white wine in this regard. Hmm. You tell me.

Received a purple and orange can of this as part of a random package from a trading partner.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice slightly hazy orange hue with a one finger white head that faded slowly to leave a light sudsy blanket without really any lacing.
S - Aromas of light citrusy hops, orange peel and juice, but all quite subtle. There is a canned peach syrup aroma too that plays off this to add a bit of a tropical aroma to it. It's all quite subtle though.
T - Taste is similar to the nose but starts off with loads of floral peaches, but more peach candy and potpourri/air freshener than actual fruit. The hops clash a bit too, coming across as rather bitter. The peach that's there masks the orange/citrus notes and what one is left with a peach candle like taste that finishes with an earthy out of place bitterness. There is an almost cough syrup like cloy medicinal bitterness that really lingers after the sip that I don't care for whatsoever.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated and the body is on the softer side which makes this come across as considerably thin.
O - Overall this was a rather underwhelming, disappointing beer. The Chinook hops really clash on the finish with an almost off putting bitterness and the peaches here come across more as a perfumed syrupy mess. Not a fan.

16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy glowing burnt golden; creamy white head that falls slowly leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have hints of peach along with some tropical fruits. Some caramel. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. Lots of peach leading the way. There's a subtle tartness and sweetness going on. Moderate to low bitterness. Nice hop flavors. Possibly some yeasts in the mix. More mild hints of caramel. Malts do their thing. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.
This is a unique IPA, and I mean that in a good way. It's not your typical "New England IPA" despite the lower IBU. It's pretty bold and flavorful. It drinks bigger than the 6.5% ABV might indicate. The peaches come through and doesn't come off as artificial at all. The craftsmanship is on point. I really like this one. Well done.

A pretty pour of cloudy (not turbid) orange. Smell is nice fresh peaches gives the impression that beer will be sweet. Taste is peach upfront bordering on too sweet and then a sudden harsh bitterness bordering on being too much. I like both aspects but not sure they work together well in this beer. Mouth feel thankfully was not sticky or sweet. Overall I liked it but would not seek it out but also would not turn it down if offered to me. I think I was expecting a little too much from this beer.

Tallboy poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy-ish orange. The nose is overly sweet (almost artificial?) peach. The palate follows suit, tasting almost like the syrup was strained off of cheap canned peaches and then recanned. The saccharine fruit adjunct fetish Platform seems to have is disappointing, and has really done a disservice to this beer.
