This is the seCANd of New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 5, Mission II (Week 763), taking me/us back to Week 755 & pre-sale Platform! It also furthers the mission of The CANQuest (tm). Yay!
From the CAN:"Kettle Sour Series"; "Berliner Weisse Style"; "Tart*Kiwi*Wild Strawberry"; "Grains[:] Pilsner[,] Pale Wheat[,] Vienna[,] Wheat Flakes[,] Hops[:] Crystal[,] Yeast[:] American Ale[,] Adjuncts[:] Kiwi[,] Wild Strawberry[,] Plato[:] 9.6[,] IBU[:] 4".
I CANducted some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent, but as a Berliner Weisse, I wanted to ensure that any flocculate was back in suspension. My Glug was quite fruitful as a result in that I got two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with very good retention from my efforts. Color was a deeply-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was sour(ish), but definitely laden with strawberry! Mmm. I LOVE strawberries as an adult! When I was a kid, it was blueberries, peaches & red raspberries & while those are still tasty, I will choose strawberry over them any time. Mmm, yummy! Mouthfeel was kinda thin, not precisely watery, but not much beyond it. Fair dinkum. Such is the style at hand. The taste was barely tart, let alone sour, but the taste was also imprecisely strawberry thanks to something really sweet poking its nose out. I know that it must have been the kiwi, but I would not have been able to identify it as such. This was a lot more pleasant than what I was expecting, which was a very sour Berliner Weisse & here we come to the crux of the matter. One must rate to Style, NOT to personal Taste (except Overall). That is why the verbiage is SO important - I have to be able to justify my numbers or else, they are that - just unjustified numbers. How CAN I rate this high on taste when it tasted more like Tuesday's Rogue Rhubarb Schmubarb? I liked it just fine, but this was NOT a Berliner Weisse. Finish was semi-dry, although I would not argue against semi-sweet. Hmm. Not stylistically CANrect, but a very pleasant beer all the same. YMMV.

This is a style I have been into lately from a brewer I have been into lately. It had to be pretty good.
It pours a nice hazy yellow with fine bubbles that disappear. The aroma is a sweet and sour yeasty fruity smell, with something underneath that almost seems bready. It tastes a confusing array of sour and fruity, with again, a nutty bready finish. It certainly is an interesting take on the style.

Poured out of a 16 oz. can into my goblet glass, this beer pours a clear, medium golden color with a shite, fizzy head that's about 1/2-2/3 of an inch thick when first poured with a few streams of little bubbles rising to the beer's surface. Head settles almost instantly to a thin foam ring lining the inside of the glass. Practically no lacing here. Aromas of a bit of a yeasty barnyard funk along with a tart strawberry and certainly some kiwi and also a slightly bready, biscuity, malt and wheat smell. The taste is pretty much the same, with slightly biscuity and bready malt and wheat, that's followed with a bit of a yeasty barnyard funk that gives way to strawberry tart and some kiwi sweetness and a hint of sourness and saltiness. Not really any discernible hop flavor. Has a very crisp, yet smooth and frothy, light to medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. Has a clean, slightly dry finish. A very refreshing beer on this very warm late spring night here in Cleveland.
