It is the occasion of New Beer Sunday (Week 655), which CANincides with NFL football's opening weekend for the season. My beloved Stillers are visiting the hated Kleveland Klowns & I wanted to drink something appropriate to mark the ocCANsion. We recently began getting distro of Platform Beer Co.'s CANs & since I am a CANnoiseur & not a CANnibal, instead of drinking their blood, I will be drinking their fermented malt-based beverages from a CANtainer formed from aluminum in a cylindrical form. Viva The CANQuest (tm)! Here we go, Stillers, here we go! Even better is that this is a CANlaboration between Platform & Burial Beer Co. of NC, since today's game will be a Platform leading to The Klowns' Burial.
From the CAN: "Malts: Pilsner, Wheat Hops: Galena Yeast: American Ale Adjuncts: Lactose, Honey, Mango, Cardamom".
Somebody did a really thorough job when adding this one! (takes an immodest bow).
Before Crack!ing open the CAN, I gave it an in-CAN agitation with the added inCANsion of a spank, ala the Devour White Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Bacon commercial. I want these Kleveland KANs to know who's boss in this equation! Sufficiently warmed up, I mean, agitated, the Crack! led to some light foaming as well as an inverted Glug. Gose is a wheat-based beer & cloudiness is to be expected, plus I wanted to get all of those lovely adjuncts into suspension. The two fingers of soapy, fizzy, eggshell-white head acted like they were afraid of me & beat a hasty retreat back to Kleveland. Bye! Color was a cloudy orangish-Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 -5), like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. Nose smelled fantastic! The tropical sweetness of the mango was tempered by both the saltiness & the spiciness of the cardamom. Mmm. Mouthfeel was on the thin side, not downright watery, but in the neighborhood. I have said repeatedly that I am NOT a sour/tart beer drinker, but this was tasty! The initial flavor was of sea salt & peppery cardamom with a decidedly puckering tartness, but then the mango & honey broke through to sweeten it up just enough to be palatable. The interplay of flavors was really interesting. Finish was as dry as the Zephyr winds blowing across the Sahara Desert. Phew. A Gose was meant to be refreshing & this beer was certainly that, but I think that one was enough for this hophead. YMMV.
