This is part of their "Bragging Rights" series, which I believe is a homebrew competition. The winner was Richard Bublitz. This beer is a spiced black lager.
12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a nice khaki head that falls leaving great retention and solid lacing. The aromas have hints of clove and chocolate. Subtle hints of cinnamon. Mild vanilla and sweet potato aromas. Some roasted characteristics. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. More clove along with some anise/black licorice. Mild hints of cinnamon. The spices come through and shine without dominating or being overwhelming. Solid chocolate notes. Moderate bitterness and sweetness. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is light with moderate to active carbonation. The sweet potatoes give this one some body to it. Pretty smooth and easy to drink.
This is a nice brew. It drinks more like an ale than a lager, in my opinion, for whatever that's worth. The spices are nice and enjoyable. Really nice flavors, especially for such a small beer. It's fun to drink. Well done.
