This is the fifth of New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 5, Mission II (Week 763), taking me/us back to Week 755 & pre-sale Platform! It also furthers the mission of The CANQuest (tm). Yay!
From the CAN: "Sour Ale"; "Grains[:] 2 Row[,] White Wheat[,] Honey Malt[,] Carafoam[,] Acidulated[,] Flaked White Wheat[,] Hops[:] Crystal[,] Yeast[:] American Ale[,] Adjuncts[:] Strawberry[,] Lactose"; "Keep Refrigerated Enjoy Cold"; "Slushee[;] Overfruited Sour"; "Plato[:] 15[,] IBU[:] 9".
I CANducted some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent, since as a Berliner Weisse, I wanted to ensure that any flocculate was back in suspension. I was happy enough as I beCAN my Glug since it was foaming up nicely to form two-plus fingers of fizzy, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with modest retention. Color was a lightly-hazy Amber to Deep-Amber/Light-Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). Nose smelled lightly of strawberries, but not enough to really get my attention. Mouthfeel was thin, kind of watery. The taste was less sour than tart & even then, it was pretty weak. It tasted of slightly tart strawberries, but even then, it was kind of a stretch. I wasn't amused, entertained & only barely happy with this one. Finish was semi-dry, but it did not really resemble a Berliner Weisse so who cares? Not me. YMMV.
