Welcome back to my Happy New I'm CANming Dahn Offa the Platform to Drink a Beer of My Own Free Will This Sunday (Week 764)! I have been diddling with Platform BC since Week 755 (8=O) & I am ready to finally put Kleveland in my rear-view. This is not animosity towards them for having been purchased by a larger CANcern, but simply a) I am tired of week after week of Platform beers & b) as a Pixburgh sports fan for over 45 years, I have NO love of Kleveland. Sorry.
From the CAN: "West Coast India Pale Ale"; "Grains[:] Pilsner[,] CaraHell[,] CaraPils[,] Munich[,] Vienna[,] Hops[:] Centennial[,] Simcoe Cryo[,] Chinook[,] Yeast[:] AmeriCAN Ale[,] Plato[:] 16.3[,] IBU[:] 46"; "Ohio Craft Beer".
Once more, into the breach, beginning with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. I was initially CANcerned since it seemed to be evincing a bit of haze. 8=( It created two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, bone-white head & then suddenly exhaled, beCANming wisps in the blink of an eye! Only the sticky lacing remained as a reminder of its brief presence. 8=O Somehow, clarity took 'hold, rendering it an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). 8=O Nose was perfect, like the CANdle that I am always asking about - pine forest with a hint of grapefruit. The looks that I get when inquiring at the mall would melt wax! 8=( Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was a twenty-year throwback, very West Coast AIPA with big grapefruit, moderate pine forest & Baby Bear bitterness - not too much, not too little, but JUST right! Mmm. I CANnot tell you how much I have missed this sort of thing in the age(s) of Cascadian, Tropical & Brut IPAs. I CAN openly weep if that will get the point across. 8=( This was the sort of thing that I lived for, that created my hophead addiction, that got me out of bed to feed my habit in the morning, that turned into a heavy jones when it went away in favor of new styles, blends & strains. 8=(
Man, I really worked to wean myself back off of 'em hops, dig? Phew. Now, this is like skin-Pop!ping: subdural without being intravenous. No s**t, we used to think that this was a way to avoid addiction! Sheeee-it. Baby, you could OD just as easily doing it that way. Man, I went on a heavy nod one time that nearly got me busted for arson on top of everything else!
Alright, back to this beer kick! Phew, but this was goooooddd. It was pleasantly bitter with a cool mintiness and a grapefruit bite to keep me on edge. I really dug the way that it never overwhelmed my palate. Finish was dry, but far from gasping. Again, just right. Daddy, I hope that they wrote this recipe down somewhere & make it again! The ABV was a tad high, but not staggering so I'd mosdef put some in my Summer beach-bound cooler, dig? YMMV.

Golden and hazy color with a small white head to boot. Medium hoppiness. Not too bitter. The beer starts and finishes fairly smooth and no after taste

Bright citrus hop aroma, pours slightly hazy with a dusting of white head. Just enough sweetness to balance out the hop bitterness. The citrus and pith notes come through quite well. Medium mouthfeel, and overall a really good IPA.

This is a "West Coast IPA". Canned on 6/21/19. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with a subtle haze; creamy white head that falls leaving nice retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have a nice amount of citrus going on. Mild hints of caramel. Some bread and crackers. Some malts. The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. More citrus leading the way. Lots of orange along with some grapefruit coming through, but the orange shines. Decent bitterness. Solid hop flavors. Malts do their thing without dominating. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.
This is a pretty solid IPA. It's not super flashy, but it's simply well done. Really nice citrus flavors. I like this one. Well done. It's probably even better than my "numerical score" might indicate.
