This is a "Barrel Aged Wheated Stout". Canned on 6/3/20. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours black with a small dark khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and lacing. The aromas have a nice amount of chocolate along with some caramel and toffee. The bourbon is subtle in the aroma department, but is definitely noticeable and blends well with everything. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. Lots of different kinds of chocolate. Some fudge, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and chocolate syrup. More toffee and caramel. Lots of raisins and other dark fruit. Mild hints of vanilla. Some rye in the mix. Wood and oak come through. The bourbon comes through without dominating. There's a stickiness going on. Wheat and malts do their thing. Low bitterness with a subtle sweetness. Nice malt backbone. There's a subtle warmth and spiciness in the finish, but the alcohol is ultimately well hidden when considering the ABV. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. It's creamy, velvety, fluffy, thick, smooth and dangerously drinkable.
This is a pretty nice barrel-aged stout. It's big and bold while ultimately remaining balanced. It might not be the craziest barrel-aged stout ever brewed, but it's still really good. It's enjoyable and fun to drink. I really like it.
