Dark and incredibly smooth, yet fairly dry, Pike Organic Double Oatmeal stout is ready for you to cozy up with this winter. A nod to oatmeal stouts of yesteryear, Pike Organic Double Oatmeal stout is made with a hand selected blend of organic malts and oats, for a silky but firm mouthfeel of chocolate and roasted caramel and malt flavors.
Certain beers embody and capture a beer style more than any other. When it comes to oatmeal stout, the beer that most people agree sets the standard is Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout. This world classic has a long relationship with Pike Brewing Company since Pike founder, Charles Finkel, conceived the idea of reviving a classic, yet extinct, beer style. He introduced the idea to Samuel Smith for which he was the importer and then worked alongside their Head Brewer, Allister Ross, to arrive at the color and taste. Charles designed the logo and label that adorns the bottles and introduced the beer in the U.S. in the late 1970s.
Pike Head Brewer, Art Dixon, sought to mirror all the characteristics that drew him to this beer, its silky mouthfeel, warm chocolate tones and roastiness, and then take it up a notch with this organic double.

A very handsome pour in the tall Belle-Vue Gueuze glass. Dark with a glint of reddish brown and sticky, exuberant pale beige foam. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky but sticks to the tonsils. Medium body. More aroma than a lot of stouts with grain and something grapey.
Just a little sweetness but quite malty. The charred edges show up just enough to remind you this is a Stout. Some mineral taste but the apple pie note gives it some balance. Dry finish but none of the sourish blackened barley taste. A better than average black brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Haggen Market up north.
