a really solid pils here, seen it only one place in boise so far, a newish italian spot downtown, part of a restaurant group out of seattle so this makes sense on tap, its distinctive and refreshing without being too light for big flavored food. it looks fine in the pint glass, doesnt hold a ton of head but has a lot of bubbles, and its not totally clear which i dont really mind either. the simplicity is cool, the balance is there, and the hop profile is less traditional but reserved enough that this still drinks european, well made, crisp, and repeatable. it smells bready and german, classic continental grain profile that defines the style, nice and fresh, a slight jasmine thing to it somehow, earthy, dry, not overly light either, this is the driving element of the beer in front of yeast or hops, and its familiar and delicious, quality grain. the yeast is mellow here, obviously an old world lager type, but behind the malt to me in nose and in taste, and the hops are mosaic, which is interesting in this style, showing a little bit noble here though with some back end bitterness in the flavor, less of the pineapple thing and more of a generic herbal character, and in the nose with soft citrus that really brightens this up. great water chemistry, a little fuller body and more strength which i like in the context of italian food, and the back end is super clean, i think this reads pretty modern and versatile and mass appeal, has high refreshment capacity, and is very well made. a pils for everyone.
