Big Lick Brewing Company

Freestanding building that looks like it once was a hanger. L-shaped bar opposite the entrance on the left, half service, half seats about 10, with some tables about the room and on a large patio out front. 17 beers on tap. Local vibe. Pinball.

Mid sized spot with a larger and quite inviting outside area.

Lots of their own brews available to enjoy on site or to take home in crowlers or in cans. Quality creations in a bunch of styles. Friendly and professional staff.

Fun place that is well worth a visit if you find yourself in the Roanoke Va. area

Visited on a Saturday evening, and the place was pretty busy. Inside is fairly large, but didn't actually have a lot of seating; it seemed as much set up to act as a bar / night spot as much as a brewery tasting room. They had a stage and a musical act that was setting up, and the crowd was transitioning from young families to young professionals starting out their night. They had an decent-sized outside area with fire pits, and apparently a private room for rent.

Service was solid, with enough staff to handle customers at the queue as well those of us at the bar efficiently. They offered three size pours (full, half, taster) of the approximately 15 taps they were pouring, and the selection featured a range of offerings that was a little heavy on IPAs. Nothing stood out as being very good, but there wasn't anything that I would consider bad, though some offerings didn't hit the claimed style very well.

Large open room with a big open air patio. Great vibe to relaxing. I was here on a Wednesday afternoon and there were a couple of dozen patrons here.

There’s a wide range of beers (over 20). Many choices for every palate.

The bartender had a good sense of the various nuances with each brew. Overall, a very easy place to relax and spend an entire evening tasting beers.

Knowledgeable staff, 20 or so beers on tap which are constantly rotating. BL does the NEIPA really well but don’t sleep on their other offerings. Cool venue with a great beer garden.

 

 

 

Small taproom in Roanoke VA. They offered a pretty good selection for a smaller place. I believe they are moving to a larger facility about a mile away. Standard bar atmosphere. The beers were flavorful. The service was very good. The selection was a good eclectic mix. I had the Barbie Juice and the Slave To The Grind, both were satisfying. I'd like to return once they move to the bigger location.

 

 

Great little brewery with a constantly rotating selection of small batch beers. Solid craftsmanship, slightly experimental, and the best service I've ever seen at a brewery.

 

 

Big Lick is definitely not in it for the money, very small place, very limited opening hours, very limited beer selection and they are not necessarily good beers. If you do find a good one it won’t be there on the next visit because the beers keep changing.

Nice, but tiny nano brewery in Roanoke. Beers are solid and always rotating, which is the main draw for me. The pint prices are fine, but growler fills are 18 bucks, so beware. The other issue, also due to the very limited batch sizes, is that there are only a few beers on tap at a time. I think they'd like to have 5, but when I was there, there were 3 beers on tap and one of those was about to kick. Big Lick is already a great little place, but if they increase their capacity somewhere down the line, watch out!
