Visited on a weekday morning. Good hours, open at 10 a.m. New beers stacked at the front. Friendly greeting from staff. Good German and Belgian selection. Plenty of Virginia beers to try. No problem with splitting six or four packs and reasonable pricing of singles. Outstanding stout and barrel aged beer stock. Beers are mostly sorted by style with domestic and imports mixed. Stock is not refrigerated. Taproom in the rear of the store opens in the afternoon.
I was personally pleased to find a good selection of Von Trapp which is not distributed in my area.

My review is based on an online purchase. I was looking for a West Virginia beer which I found here while perusing their site. The site was easy to navigate, choose beers, and pay for them. Barrel Chest provided an email the next business day outlining my purchase with tracking information.
I'm very happy with my purchase. It was seamless.
Very nice. Thank you.

Friendly but not intrusive staff. Wide selection of beers from around the world with clear shelf labels. Decent selection of local (Virginia) beers. Prices are a bit steep, but that's offset by the fact that you can break up any six- (or four-) pack on the shelves. Decor is somewhat spartan, but who cares? the selection is what matters, and as several others have noted, you can have a beer while shopping for beer. Check it out.

Great place to do my favorite kind of grocery shopping. Only place in town where you can have a beer while you browse around the store for.... more beer. Excellent selection and great inclusion of local brews. The staff is friendly and helpful, and know how to pour a proper pint. Well worth a visit.

15 beers on tap, over 1000 in bottles, if you can't find it here, it doesn't exist.

Stopped by while working and passing through Roanoke. Nice and wide open store with plenty of room between aisles. Found a few beers that I had been looking for, including some local VA beers. The beer bar in the back is nice, had about 10 beers on tap. The bartender was really friendly and attentive. I'll definitely stop buy again next time I'm in town.

This is a beer fans dream come true. It's only recently opened, a few months back, but I've already become a regular. It's a beer store with taps in the back. You can go buy a pint and shop the stacks while you drink it. That may be my only complaint, as I can get half in the bag and then spend entirely too much money on craft beers or foreign beers. They have a good selection of both.
They have several beers on tap, the listing says 10, but I think they added 5 more recently. The staff is knowledgeable and amenable. They do 4, 8 and 16 ounce pours, with options for 32 and 64oz growlers depending on the availability of the beer. (Sadly I couldn't get a growler of the Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, as they were rationing it, but what can you do.)
They also have wine by the glass and for sale, but that's outside of my main purview, typically. If you come to Roanoke looking for beer, this has to be high on your list of destinations.
