Orange can label with black writing and horned coconut art. Dated 01-21-21.
Dark brown color with a low, tan head. The beer went still quickly but left no clinging lace. A swirl kicks up some foam but it fizzles away in seconds.
Big chocolate aroma with sweet notes of - I guess it smells a bit like coconut but if I hadn't seen it on the can I might not be smelling it. Interesting none the less with notes of sweetened coffee and charred grain, raisins and maple.
Flavors follow the nose with sweet dark malt, chocolate and wrinkled fruit, more coffee but with 2 sugars maybe 3, molasses and finally some peppery boil hops move in on the finish. If there is a hint of coconut it's in the initial flood of sweet, dark malt but otherwise I don't taste it as a dominant flavor.
Sweet is the dominant character here but those sweet, charred fruit flavors blend well and the hops come in just in time to balance and mellow it out.
The rush of malt up front feels heavy but overall this is medium bodied with a tasty finish of black grains, peppery hop and a hint of coffee.
