This Old Ale owns deep caramel layers as a result of a long kettle caramelization process. A hint of lactobacillus tartness and months resting in pinot noir barrels have evolved Ano Viejo into an age worthy ale complex nose, pallet and finish enjoyable for this year or the next.

A - cloudy light brown with golden edges, a thick head that retains well
S - fruity, mostly grapes, very pronounced
T - tart to start, pinot noir mixed with caramel, notes of dark fruits (raisins, figs), quite complex
F - very thick and full, but not syrupy
O - I did not really enjoy this at first, but as it warmed and I got past the tartness there is quite a bit of complexity that I really enjoyed
Certainly expensive, not something to drink every day, but this is one of those artisinal projects that is worth a try. They blended abstract flavors well into something that worked.

Poured a copper body with one-finger head and lace ring down glass. The wine barrels come across as slightly woody and vinous in the aroma and there is some heavy caramel and dark fruit aromas like prunes and raisins. There is this "red grape" slightly vinous taste but it balances well with thick sweetness from caramel, figs, raisins, and there is an easy finish with no booziness at all. Interesting old ale that is a slow sipper and a must try.
