Notes:
Don't get it twisted. This is not your typical malt bomb of a Scottish ale. What we've created is a medium bodied, malt forward beer that has just the right hint of sea salt to bring its subtle sweetness into balance. A traditional 80 schilling ale with a Mockery style makeover. It's almost like the mist of the North Sea just blew into your beer .... and we're not sorry for that!

Beautiful dark amber body with a thin yet relatively dense head. Big malt aroma; roasted grain and rich caramel notes. The flavor brings out the toasted grain notes with just a twinge of saltiness; initial peek of sweetness greets the tip of the tongue; tastes ends with some nice nutty and subtle bitterness. Medium bodied; a bit fizzy yet leaving a well-rounded warmth throughout; balanced, deep sweetness with a touch of dryness.
This beer is a warm and inviting ale, malt-forward with corresponding rich maltiness punctuated with a whisper of saltiness.

Color is good but the head is almost non existent, flavor is rich and reminds me or caramelized sugar. Aroma is mellow with nothing really jumping out. Beer is tasty but not a great example of the style and not an outstanding beer in general.

conceptually i think this is brilliant, capture that ocean mist minerality and brine feel you get on the scottish seaside, makes great sense, and as far as i know, it hasnt yet been done. i think this is a good first step, but its in need of some evolving, and i dont just mean an islay single malt barrel (although can you guys please do that?!). its got a nice rich malt base, but i would look for a little more peat character there moving forward. its not under flavored on the malt at all, just a little too predictable and a little too much caramel without the earthen backing. a lot is going right though, the salt is carefully and i believe correctly dosed, with its body coming through as much as its flavor. it plays well with the grain, and balances sweetness in a whole new way. more bittering hops might also help, but i like where its at now. the yeast seems to fit in unintrusively, and a nice round dried fruit character and a touch of smoke help it finish. overall a very creative beer that is close to be outstanding. right now, its the idea that makes this as appealing as it is, but im sure its coming
