Pours red with slight caramel tint. Slight off white head. Aroma is toasted grains, caramel, a touch nutty perhaps with some hops offering floral, pine, and a little fruity. Flavor followed suit but with a little less in the hop department. A medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, I went fort his one specifically because it used nelson sauvin hops but I could not distinguish them in either the aroma or flavor. Had I gone in without any expectations, I probably would have enjoyed this one a little more. Decent beer but missing the one specific element I was most interested in. I am more inclined to consider this a session red ale than session Red IPA, but might just be me (note: for perspective, I still consider Odell's Runoff Red to be a Red and not a Red IPA). Would revisit this one to see if a second try at it, at a different time, might lead to different results.

On tap at the brewery; poured into a pint glass.
Apperance - color is light red; little carbonation and only a thin white head that leaves minimal lacing.
Smell - hop forward in the nose with a little citrus, pine and floral standing out; just a hint of malt.
Taste - the nose would indicate a stronger hop presence, but that malts stand out; still get the pine and floral hops, but not as much of the citrus flavor.
Feel - light and clean with enough bitterness to qualify as a session IPA, but more balance with the strong malt backing.
Overall - decent offering, but probably trying to get a little too cute with the red session approach.
