neat beer, great idea in a rare style, and fine execution. great use of the fruit too, often this one tastes like generic berries, but not here, very true to the berry itself, no mistaking it, its just the base beer isnt necessarily something i love. its hazy and thick, sweet and boozy, almost doesnt need the sweetness the fruit provides, but its definitely better with it than it would be without it. purple tinted and dense, not much head. smells a little tangy from the fruit too, sweet and rich from all the sugar of the wheat malt in this high proportion, and some high gravity yeast thats neither completed the job or worked its way out of suspension, a huge turnoff for me more in feel than anywhere else. definitely sweet, but the boysenberry flavor is legitimate here and it makes this distinct. this would do just as well at 8% abv or so, the extra booze is fusel forward and intense, really hurts it for me. in the end its a clever beer and a fun one to sip on, but hard to drink more than a short pour, and not good enough to go chasing again. worth trying, but id be surprised if it sticks in their regular lineup.
