they called this a golden sour, but its crimson from the tap, i cant imagine it took on that much color from the sangiovese barrels, but i suppose anything is possible. not much head or carbonation here, which is my main critique of this, this is not lambic, it needs to sparkle, and it falls flat for me. the aroma and flavor are nice though, a lot of distinctive wine characteristics from the barrel, cherry and raspberry notes, even that dried goji berry sweet tang that makes my mouth water. the sourness is medium high, cleanish, not as funky or interesting as i wanted it to be, a cleaner bacterial thing thats just sort of sharp on the tongue, but there is a ton of woody maturity to this, and all the oak gives the the depth it needs for this level of sourness to work. lumber and vanilla notes to the barrel as well as all the wine. i do get a light toasted malt thing in here and a little sweetness with it, maybe some color from that then too, but its nice for body and balance with all the acid. i like how grape forward this is, but some yeast complexity would help it a lot, some more developed brett or something. still, a tasty beer and my gals favorite from last weekend!
