Poured from 330mL bottle into a tumbler. Best by 9/2024.

Appearance: nice amber hue with a moderate haze and a thin finger of frothy tan foam. It’d be nice if the head stuck around a little bit longer.

Smell: lightly sweet malt with a nice caramel character. Not the most complex thing in the world, but appropriate to the style.

Taste: caramel and toffee flavors, along with a somewhat pronounced bitterness. A very classic “red ale” flavor profile, again, if not the most complex.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: I’m not always the biggest amber ale fan, but this is a pretty decent beer that I’m certainly going to finish.

Bottle. Medium marmalade in colour. Thick and long lasting creamy head.
Aroma of caramel and toffee with pine hops.
Fruity with earthy notes. A sweetness is balanced by a bitter finish.
A bit cloying but the astringency saves it.

Poured to a Duvel tulip glass.

A: The body is coppery to red and it's opaque. The head is more white than beige but not totally white. There's some lacing but there's little retention.
S: The aroma is very similar to an outdated IPA with tons of earthy and piny aromas but a bit more soft, I find it amazing.
T: The taste has a strong influence by the IPA aroma having a profile close to a Belgian IPA. It's not great but it's interesting.
M: Density is medium high. Carbonation is high. Bitterness is prominent.
O: One of the best Letra beers that you can have all year round.

On-draught @ Latraio in Porto.

Has a nice toasted Amber malt backbone balanced out by a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Hoppy for a European Amber, with floral and fruity hop character playing off the Amber malts nicely. Well put together, if a biteen shallow in comparison to the best international expressions of the style. Unfortunately, overcarbonated.

Okay, it's simple, but I find it an effective build, and the smoothness and wetness of the texture is apt.

Drinkable and worth trying.

Lumpy sandstone head over murky chestnut. 3.75
Orange hard candy and strawberry nose - yum. 4
Tart apple and a bit of caramel then tangerine squash hops. 3.75
Rindy finish and bitter green linger.
Fizzy, crisp, light. 3.5

Nose starts off in the right direction but in the glass it’s too fizzy, thin, and sharp. I wonder if there are too many fermentables and this just keeps working away in the bottle. Shapes of a good US amber - Cascade on the finish, I’m guessing - but work left to do. 3.5
