Letra - Cerveja Artesanal Minhota "g"
33 cl brown glass bottle, capped and waxed. Coded "V:04/2026 L:08/2024". Sampled on 26.11.2024
Notes via stream of consciousness: An opaque black body is capped by a short head of tan foam. There appears to be sediment left at the base of the bottle. The aroma is roasty with notes of coffee, brown sugar, soft orchard fruits, and soft cocoa powder. The taste is fuller but with the same coffee-like roastiness. The brown sugar remains, as does the fruitiness (apple, pear, orange), and there's also some milk chocolate and a spritz of alcohol. It's not the richest Imperial stout that I've tasted but it's pretty decent. A moderate bitterness, in conjunction with the alcohol, is enough to dry it and leave it roasty and earthy in the finish. Some chocolate remains as well. In the mouth it's medium in body on the upper end, and gently crisp and then smooth with a moderate carbonation level. I've been drinking a lot of Imperial stouts over the past few days and I can say that this one definitely holds its own ground but it's not at the top of the mountain. I wish the head retention and lacing was better although I'll admit that perhaps the glass I'm using isn't exactly "beer clean". I wish the aroma was a little bit fuller but at the same time it's certainly not anything less than required for the style, and I'll say the same for the taste although the taste hits the mark more fully. It's almost perfect but not quite there. At the very least it's clean, well balanced, and well rounded.

44 cl can poured into a wine glass in Porto, Portugal.
Starts out with a short head that vanishes pretty quick.
Nice nose of deep roast malt, a whiff of expresso and chocolate follows.
Big round mouthful of Stout right here. Dense but not oily. Roasty flavors waft out of the mouth and hits the nose again. Nice & chewy. Hops are just a lapel pin; there, but not. The ABV is a punctuation, but leaves no burn.
Mouthfeel is excellent for the style. AmaZing Zing of carbonation.
Overall, nothing pretentious here. A tasty Imperial Stout celebration.
