.5L bottle purchased and consumed in Bavaria. Very fresh with a best by date of 13 March 2013.

Pours a light golden yellow with a large, creamy near-white head. The head has great feel, very good retention, and leaves nice lacing.

The aroma is rather light and smells a bit too much like a brewery as opposed to a beer.

Although fairly light flavoring, there are no (other) flaws in this Helles, and the sweet/bitter balance is excellent.

Mouthfeel: surprisingly full (medium body) and creamy. Well-chosen medium+ carbonation. 4.25

O: a fine Bavarian Helles, albeit undistinguished except for its great mouthfeel.

Bought at a gas station in Germany north of Munich amongst the hop fields. A simple clear beer that is the color of fine corn silk. A thick aggressive head rises and falls quickly on top of this beer. Auer Helles is a simple and unimpressive beer that is along the disappointing lines of an American macro lager.

The nose is sweet but it doesn't have a lot of fingers pointing in the direction of grain. The hops are present but tend to be a little musty. Again not very impressive and simple.

Taste is slightly better then the nose yielding a defined malt that is fresher and tasty. It has a touch of lemon going along with the malt bill. A good step in the right direction but still just an ok beer.

The mouthfeel has a medium body with a light sizzle of carbonation like everything else I find it to be muted and underwhelming. An easy drinking beer which I find myself warming to. It's by no means the best beer I've ever had but I enjoy it's crisp almost dry finish. Nothing spectacular but it works and is worth trying.

Full yellow hue, tending to greenish. White head, quite creamy. Some bubbles on the sides, Not very persistent.
The smell is malty, clear, dry. But there are even a good hop, herbal, clean.
The taste is definitely malty. More delicate and less strong than in the smell. After the malt start, anyway, there is a good hop.
Aftertaste on the hop, long.
Medium body, nothing to note, but on the style.
Overall, delicate and inviting.
